About the Festival


Your mouth will water from the sweet smell of barbecue cooking on the grills of professional and backyard barbecue teams during the Grill’n & Chill’n BBQ Cook-off held in October as part of the Autumn Treasures Festival. Sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, up to 30 professional teams and 20 backyard teams will compete for prize money and championship titles.

It’s a little piece of hog heaven, so come join us for Grill’n & Chill’n in October!

About the Competition


The Pro teams will arrive on Friday and cook all night. On Saturday from 11 am - 1 pm, the teams turn in their meats to be judged by a professional line-up of KCBS certified judges.  Professional teams are judged in four categories: chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder / butt, and beef brisket.  On Saturday afternoon from 1:30 - 4:00 pm, the public will get a chance to taste this awesomeness and vote on their favorite during the public tasting event. All ticket sales from this event help local charities. Winners are announced Saturday at 5 PM.

When the Pro Teams pull out, it's time for the Backyard Teams to shine!  By popular request, we have added a backyard competition to Grill'n & Chill'n.  Backyard teams will follow KCBS rules and be judged by a professional line-up of KCBS certified judges.  Backyard teams are judged in two meat categories:  chicken and pork ribs.  On Sunday afternoon from 1:30 - 4:00 pm, the public will get a chance to taste BBQ and vote for their favorite backyard team during the backyard public tasting event.  Winners are announced Sunday at 5 PM.
