April 24th BOC Meeting Recap

Posted on July 8, 2018 at 9:45 AM by Waxhaw Communications

On Tuesday April 24, 2018, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners conducted both a work session and our regularly scheduled business meeting.

At the work session, the Board:

  • Kicked off Waxhaw’s Strategic Park Master Plan update by receiving a presentation from Alfred Benesch & Company, which outlined the steps, outcomes and timeline for the plan. The plan includes an extended citizen input period over the summer months
  • Recognized the individuals that completed the inaugural Waxhaw 101 local civics course covering the Town's government structure and services provided.

The regular meeting began with some very well deserved recognition. The Board approved two very significant proclamations:

  • The Town recognized and honored Sgt. Roger Coan for his nearly 50 years of law enforcement service in Union County and Waxhaw;
  • The Town recognized Clerk Melody Shuler and Deputy Clerk Kelley Currey and adopted a proclamation recognizing Municipal Clerk's Week, May 6th - 12th, 2018;

The Board also recognized the Town Communication’s Team for being among 23 North Carolina governments to earn recognition in the Eleventh Annual North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) Excellence in Communications Awards. To learn more about these awards, please view the NEWS RELEASE

The Board of Commissioners accomplished the following for the Town of Waxhaw:

  • Approved a single family residential development of 17 homes on approximately 17.4 acres. The approval included commitments to a number of transportation improvements:
  • Dedication of Right of Way to accommodate future intersection improvements to Kensington Drive / Waxhaw Marvin intersection;
  • Turn lanes on Kensington drive
  • External sidewalks on Waxhaw Marvin and a portion of Kensington,
  • Conducted public hearings on the voluntary annexation and potential zoning for Grove Manor, a proposed “Age targeted” adult community along Waxhaw Marvin Road.
  • Did not approve an ordinance that would regulate the Town’s street right of way in the Downtown Area.

Thank you to those that attended in person and to those that view via our Town YouTube Channel. The recording of last night’s meeting will remain on our You Tube channel until the minutes are drafted and approved.
