Posted on July 8, 2018 at 9:46 AM by Waxhaw Communications

On Tuesday May 08, 2018, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners conducted both a work session and our regularly scheduled business meeting.

At the work session, the Board of Commissioners received the proposed 2018/19 budget from our Town Manager. The proposed budget included:

  • decrease in the Town’s Operating Budget
  • Recognition that the Town’s General Fund Policy, which was enacted by the Board to provide financial security for the Town, requires the Town to establish an approach to finance the long term improvements the Town is in need of
  • Establishing a solid waste fee to continue the Town’s commitment to maintain our environment
  • Establishing a vehicle fee to begin to fund congestion and transportation improvements for the 40 miles of Town’s roads

The regular meeting began and ended with some very well deserved recognition.

  • The Town recognized and honored the Odyssey of Mind Teams from Cuthbertson Middle School and Kensington Elementary on their successes
  • The Town of Waxhaw was bestowed the great honor of being awarded the "Great Main Street Award," which is provided by Great Places NC.
  • The Town recognized Town Attorney Chaplin Spencer for his 15 Years of Service to the Town of Waxhaw.

The Board of Commissioners accomplished the following for the Town of Waxhaw:

  • Scheduled the public hearing for the Town of Waxhaw 2018/19 budget for May, 22, 2018.
  • Approved the voluntary annexation of 20 Acres of property along Waxhaw Marvin.
  • Approved the conditional zonings, conditions, and plans associated with the annexation to allow for the development of Grove Manor, a small active adult community.
  • Appointed Charles R. Buckley III as Interim Town Attorney for the Town of Waxhaw, effective May 9, 2018.
