QUESTION 1: How fast are we really growing?

ANSWER: North Carolina is the 12th fastest growing state in the country, growing faster than the national average, at 6.4 percent since the last census. 68% of North Carolina’s growth is accounted for in two regions: Charlotte and Raleigh.

As part of the Charlotte Region, Union County has grown over 75% since 2000. 80% of the Union County population lives west of Monroe.

From the mid-1980’s through the late 1990’s, Waxhaw went from being one of the few incorporated towns in Western Union County to being surrounded by new neighbors; Weddington, Marvin, Mineral Springs and Wesley Chapel. Since the year 2000, Waxhaw’s population has grown from 3,000 residents to over 17,000 and growing today. In that same time, our Town limits have grown by over 400%
