Question 2: How did growth happen in Waxhaw?

ANSWER: There is an old saying, “change is inevitable, growth is intentional.” Waxhaw’s growth has been very intentional with the vast majority of Waxhaw’s current housing growth cemented in place by 2006 as shown in the timeline below:

  • 1980’s through early 2000’s: Old Hickory Shopping Center
  • 1998: Adoption of Region Thoroughfare Plan including a proposed Waxhaw Parkway.
  • 1996 though mid 2000’s: Nearly 550 single and multi-family housing units approved and began to emerge in Kingston, Alma Village, The Oaks and Harrison Park.
  • 2001 through 2006: 11 new neighborhood developments were approved totaling nearly 6000 homes.
  • 2003 through 2006: Commercial support was approved for Cureton Town Center (and Prescot Commercial).
