Open Positions - Board & Commissions

Submit a volunteer application to serve on one of Waxhaw's Committees or Boards. Below are guidelines for completing the application and a current list of openings. VOLUNTEER APPLICATION



1) One application per Board or Committee; You may apply for multiple boards/committees.

2) Members may only serve on one board or committee simultaneously

3) Applications may be completed online or Stop by Town Hall for a Paper Application

4) Applications may be completed and are accepted at any time

5) Applications are held for consideration for 1 year

1 - Board of Adjustment (BOA) 

1 - Board of Adjustment - Alternate (BOA)

1 - Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)

1 - Planning Board (PB)

About the Board of Adjustment -

The Board of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial board that is tasked with hearing and deciding on variances to the Town of Waxhaw’s Unified Development Ordinance and appeals from the Planning & Zoning Administrator. In order to be granted a variance, a hardship must be proved by the applicant. Decisions on appeals are based on what the Board of Adjustment believes to be the actual meaning and intent of the ordinance.

About the Historic Preservation Commission - 

The Waxhaw Historic Preservation Commission decides on for Certificates of Appropriateness for repairs and maintenance of local historic landmarks, administers façade improvement grants for improvements on historic buildings in downtown and pursues designation local historic landmarks.

About the Planning Board:

The Planning Board acts as an advisory board to the Board of Commissioners and makes recommendations on development plans including rezoning requests, conditional use permits, text amendments and major subdivision plans. The Planning Board also makes recommendations on updates to the Waxhaw Comprehensive Plan, the long range plan guiding plan for Waxhaw’s development, as well as other long range small area plans to ensure proper planning for the future growth of Waxhaw.
