Mayor's Recap: April 30th BOC Work Session and Meeting

Mayor's Recap April 30th Work Session and Meeting

On Tuesday, April 30th, 2019, the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners completed the April 23rd work session and regular business meeting. Both meetings had been recessed on April 23rd due to illness.

The work session began with a focus on Parks and Recreation:

  • The Park and Recreation Director provided the Board a number of potential suggestions for a public art policy. Staff was asked to take the output from the discussion and bring back some recommendations to the Board on a public art policy.
  • The Board continued the discussion with staff on the draft of Waxhaw’s future Parks and Recreation Master Plan. This draft plan attempts to capture the needs and lay out potential strategic plan for the next 10 years. The ideas presented have the potential to provide a number of amenities and would require a significant investment from our town tax dollars. The next discussions will focus on refining the investments and resources requested in the master plan to enable future adoption.

The final item in the work session was the presentation of the proposed FY19/20 Town Budget by the Town Manager. The Town Manager is required to do so by June 1 each year. The Board received the budget and

  • The Board established a work session schedule during May to further clarify and deliberate on the budget. Please check our Social Media pages for times, dates, and locations;
  • Scheduled a formal public hearing for May 29th to enable citizens to share their opinions and thoughts on the proposed budget.

The regular meeting began by addressing some necessary administrative corrections and updates to our ordinances and fee structure. Once completed, the Board:

  • Scheduled two meetings – July 19 and July 22 – for purposes of filling the mid-term vacancy on the Board of Commissioners due to the resignation of Fred Burrell;
