August 27th BOC Meeting Recap

The Waxhaw Board of Commissioners met on Tuesday August 27. Our regular meeting began with paying our respect to our great country with the Pledge of Allegiance. Highlights of the afternoon and evening included:Reviewed the proposals that have been submitted for the Town owned downtown real estate. Staff presented a criteria sheet to evaluate each of the proposals. After review the Board narrowed the finalists down to two proposals. A follow-up meeting is scheduled as part of the September 24 work session with final decision to be made in October

  • Reviewed the unaudited financial results for FY19, which showed an increase in fund balance of nearly $1.6M.
  • Approved amendments to the plans at Prescot Village that included transportation improvements and phased development plans that will begin to utilize the Prescot Village site that has sat idle for nearly 10 years
  • Approved the modifications to allow the commencement of 17 acres of commercial development on 3205 Providence Road,
  • Extended for three years the current lease of Town Hall
  • Scheduled the Public Hearing for the voluntary annexation of nearly 92 Acres of land owned by members of the Howie family
  • Recognized Town Clerk Melody Shuler on her appointment as (1st) Vice President of the North Carolina Association of Municipal Clerks (NCAMC).
  • Adopted a proclamation in support of litter awareness and presented the proclamation to Litter Busters of Union County.
  • Gladys Kerr was honored with a key to the Town of Waxhaw. We wanted to show our appreciation for her dedication to the community through her history, service, and beloved storytelling. While she is moving to a neighboring town, we will always welcome her in Waxhaw with open arms. Please join us in congratulating Ms. Gladys on this honor, and do say hello to her if you see her around in Waxhaw.
