Waxhaw Gearing Up for the Holidays

A full calendar of events is again in store for Waxhaw area residents for the holiday season.  Events begin Friday December 6, with the Waxhaw Senior Citizen Christmas Party.  Done in partnership with Waxhaw area restaurants and business community volunteers, close to 300 Waxhaw senior citizens will be served a holiday meal and enjoy festivities at Waxhaw Bible Church at 12 noon.  Registration is required.  Call 704-843-2195 ext. 221 or 258 to register.

On Saturday December 7, the town hosts activities all day. Run or walk the GingerSnap 5K through historic Waxhaw on Saturday December 7, 2019 at 8 a.m. The race takes you through the downtown streets of historic Waxhaw and along tree lined streets at a beautiful time of year. The GingerSnap 5K is a USATF sanctioned race that is professionally timed. This race also supports the Girls on the Run organization. Over 500 girls will participate in the run as a completion of their program designed to inspire girls of all abilities to recognize and embrace their inner strengths, physical and emotional health. For more information or to register go to:

Then from 4 - 8 PM on Saturday December 7, Waxhaw will be alive with activity as we light up downtown with over 1 million lights.  The winter season will be celebrated with a live musical performance, live performances by area dance studios, carnival games and rides, live nativity, carriage rides and the arrival of Santa.  For a complete schedule of events, please visit .

To round out the weekend, Waxhaw's Christmas Parade will be held on Sunday, December 8 at 3 PM in downtown Waxhaw featuring our local school marching bands and entries and floats by hundreds of businesses and members of the commuity.  Announcers cover the entire parade route to make sure that you hear all of the details surrounding the fun entries passing by.  Due to the parade being rained out last Christmas, our parde theme and Grand Marshal from last year will be carried over to this year's parade.  Look for floats decorated in any storybook theme such as Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Abominable Snowman, The Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas and more.  Or better yet, join us and be in the parade yourself.  We are still accepting registrants.  Go to or call 704-843-2195 ext. 221 to register.

Our Grand Marshal, Nicole Jordan, truly represents the spirit of giving in our community. This Waxhaw native has put on events for area families in need from the “Waxhaw Walks for Cancer” event and “Project Prom” to programs such as “Adopting a Family for Thanksgiving,” “Sponsor A Local Child For Christmas,” and a local area food pantry. Last year, she was the recipient of The Keziah-Salters Center of Monroe NC 2018 Inspiration Award for Human Potential and recognized for her extraordinary impact upon the community and exceptional service to those in need. If you see Nicole, please thank her for the community spirit she represents and congratulate her on the efforts which make her worthy of Grand Marshal.

On Saturday, December 14, the Town of Waxhaw, along with the Parkwood JROTC, the Union County Composite Squadron (Civil Air Patrol), the American Legion, boy and girl scout troops and members of the community, support the Wreaths Across America project and its mission to remember and honor fallen military veterans who have supported and defended our nation.  We invite you to be a part of this remembrance by joining us for a commemorative ceremony and the laying of the wreaths on veterans gravesites at the Waxhaw Southside Cemetery at 12 noon.

And on Thursday December 26th, in cooperation with the Ballantyne Jewish Center, a Menorah lighting ceremony will be held at 5:30 PM on W. N. Main Street underneath the Big Oak Tree bandstand near the Railroad Overhead Bridge.  Pre-lighting children's activities will take place at 5 PM.  Contact Rabbi Yisrael Levin at 704-737-0555 for more information.

Come join us in downtown Waxhaw in December for your holiday happenings.
