Waxhaw, N.C. (July 23rd, 2019) – The Waxhaw Board of Commissioners has appointed Erskine Smith as Interim Town Manager, effective July 24th, 2019. Smith is serving as Waxhaw's Interim Manager while the Mayor and Board of Commissioners conduct a search for a new Town Manager for Waxhaw.
The Town Board looks forward to working with Mr. Smith as we conduct a search for the new manager of Waxhaw. Erskine brings more than 30 years of municipal government experience and leadership to Waxhaw that will provide a steady hand during this transition phase
Erskine Smith brings more than 30 years of municipal government experience in North Carolina. While he began in Planning, he served as Assistant Manager and Town Manager in Mooresville for the majority of his career. Smith was the project manager for several parks and fire stations, the Mooresville Public Library, and the Charles Mack Citizen Center expansion.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Appalachian State University and did graduate study in Urban Administration at UNCC. He attended the Senior Executive Institute (SEI) at The Weldon Copper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia. Additionally, he is a Credentialed Manager with the International City Manager Association (ICMA) and holds AICP certification with the American Planning Association (APA). He is a graduate of the Carolinas Leadership Program.
He currently serves on the Mooresville Lake Norman United Way Board of Directors, is active in the Mooresville Civitan Club, and the Mooresville Foundation for Excellence in Education. Smith served over 20 years with Mooresville Rescue Squad and Volunteer Fire Department, and he served as a volunteer coach with several organizations as well as a Scout leader and Friends of Scouting program. He has served many other boards and civic organizations during his career.
Smith is married, and has three sons and four grandchildren.
