What does the ABC Board do?
The Waxhaw ABC Board is one of nearly 200 ABC boards in the state of North Carolina. All local ABC boards in North Carolina are governed by the North Carolina ABC Commission, which is located in Raleigh. Waxhaw’s ABC store opened on November 16, 1977 and began selling mixed beverages in December 2009. The Waxhaw ABC Board governs the Town of Waxhaw's ABC store. The Board consists of five members. The Board staffs the ABC Store employees including a general manager who is responsible for the daily operations of the store, a finance officer, and retail personnel.
What skills do I need to serve on the ABC Board?
Citizens who have an understanding of North Carolina liquor laws, finance officers, retail managers, and store owners would be a good fit on this Board. ABC Board members must reside within the town limits of Waxhaw.
What is the time commitment?
The Waxhaw ABC Board meets the second Monday of every month at 6 pm. Board members may serve a maximum of two (2) consecutive, 3-year terms on the ABC Board. A series of training at both the local and state levels are required for this important statutory board.
