The Waxhaw Board of Commissioners recognized six-year-old Graham Huntley at their Regular Meeting on August 26, 2025, for his heroic actions that helped prevent a train derailment in Downtown Waxhaw.
Earlier this month, following a major storm, Graham spotted a fallen tree lying across the railroad tracks just as a train was approaching. He quickly alerted an adult, who was able to notify the train conductor. Thanks to Graham’s quick thinking and timely warning, the train came to a stop safely just feet from the obstruction.
During the meeting, Graham and his family were honored with a signed proclamation, a special gift, and had his picture taken with Mayor Robert J. Murray, III.
The Town of Waxhaw commends Graham for his bravery, attentiveness, and presence of mind, which helped protect lives and property in the heart of Downtown.
