Mayor Murray has terminated the State of Emergency for the Town of Waxhaw effective February 5, 2026, at 1 p.m.

The Town of Waxhaw has declared a State of Emergency due to the threat of severe winter weather. This declaration is effective Friday, January 23, 2026, and will remain in effect until it is terminated or modified.
The State of Emergency authorizes the following:
- All municipal emergency response and public safety agencies are authorized to take necessary actions to protect life and property.
- The Town of Waxhaw’s Emergency Operations Plan may be activated as needed.
- This declaration authorizes emergency procurement, intergovernmental cooperation, and mutual aid as allowed by law.
Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use extreme caution when travel is required, and comply with all directives issued by Waxhaw Police Department and emergency responders.

PROCLAMATION DECLARING A STATE OF EMERGENCY FOR THE TOWN OF WAXHAW DUE TO THE THREAT OF SEVERE WINTER WEATHER
WHEREAS, the North Carolina Emergency Management Act (North Carolina General Statute §166A-19 et seq.) and Chapter 30 of the Waxhaw Code of Ordinances authorize the Mayor of the Town of Waxhaw to declare a State of Emergency when conditions exist or are threatened that pose a threat to life, property, and public safety within the Town of Waxhaw;
WHEREAS, the National Weather Service has forecast severe winter weather conditions in the Town of Waxhaw for Saturday, January 24, and Sunday, January 25, 2026, including significant ice accumulation and snowfall, which are expected to create hazardous road conditions, potential power outages, and disruption of essential services;
WHEREAS, such conditions present an imminent threat to life, property, and public safety and may require the utilization of emergency powers to ensure the protection of residents and property in the Town of Waxhaw; and
WHEREAS, declaring a State of Emergency and imposing any restrictions and prohibitions ordered herein is necessary to maintain an acceptable level of public order and services, and to protect lives, safety and property.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Robert J. Murray, III, pursuant to the authority vested in me as Mayor of the Town of Waxhaw, in the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim that a State of Emergency exists in the Town of Waxhaw, North Carolina due to the forecast and anticipated impacts from the severe winter weather conditions and all or any part of Chapter 30 of the Town of Waxhaw Code of Ordinances may be enforced until such time as this State of Emergency is terminated.
IT IS FURTHER DECLARED THAT:
1. All municipal emergency response and public safety agencies are authorized to take necessary actions to protect life and property.
2. The Town of Waxhaw’s Emergency Operations Plan may be activated as needed.
3. This declaration authorizes emergency procurement, intergovernmental cooperation, and mutual aid as allowed by law.
4. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use extreme caution when travel is required, and comply with all directives issued by Waxhaw Police Department and emergency responders.
This State of Emergency shall remain in effect until terminated or modified by subsequent proclamation or resolution.
