Now Accepting Advisory Board and Commission Applications

Post Date:05/07/2026 9:22 a.m.

Looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the Town of Waxhaw? Our Advisory Boards and Commissions give residents the opportunity to play an active role in shaping the community’s future.

Each year, the Town opens applications for upcoming vacancies across several boards, as well as the Waxhaw Youth Council. Whether your interests are in planning, historic preservation, parks, public art, or community leadership, there’s a place to contribute your time, talent, and perspective.

What’s Open for 2026

The following seats are currently available:

  • Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC): 2 seats
  • Historic Preservation Commission (HPC): 1 seat
  • Planning Board / Board of Adjustment (PB/BOA): 3 seats + 1 alternate
  • Parks, Cultural & Recreation Advisory Board (PCR): 3 seats + 1 mid-term seat
  • Public Art Committee (PAC): 1 seat
  • Waxhaw Youth Council (WYC): 1 seat

A total of 11 appointments will be made, with the current terms ending September 30, 2026. If selected, your term would most likely begin October 1, 2026.

How It Works

Serving on a board or commission is a volunteer opportunity with real impact. Here’s a quick overview of the process:

  1. Apply by July 31 at 5 p.m. to be considered for annual appointments.
  2. One application per board (you can apply to multiple boards, but must submit separate applications).
  3. Applications are reviewed by the Organizational Advisory Board (OAB), which conducts interviews and recommends candidates.
  4. Final appointments are made by the Board of Commissioners in September.
  5. Most terms are three years, beginning October 1.

Applications are accepted year-round and kept on file for one year, so even if you miss the deadline, you may still be considered for future vacancies.
