About Downtown Waxhaw
Downtown Waxhaw serves as the Town’s historic, cultural, and economic center. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, downtown is home to locally owned businesses, historic architecture, community gathering spaces, public art, restaurants, retail shops, professional services, and year-round events.
As one of North Carolina’s nationally accredited Main Street America™ communities, Downtown Waxhaw focuses on preservation-based economic development that supports small businesses, encourages investment, strengthens community identity, and enhances the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike.
Downtown Master Plan
The Downtown Waxhaw Master Plan serves as the community’s long-term vision for downtown growth, redevelopment, connectivity, infrastructure, public spaces, economic development, and preservation.
Developed through extensive public engagement and adopted by the Town Board of Commissioners, the plan outlines strategies to:

strengthen downtown businesses,

improve walkability and safety,

expand connectivity,

support thoughtful redevelopment,

enhance parking and infrastructure,

encourage arts and culture,

and preserve the historic character that makes Downtown Waxhaw unique.
The plan helps guide future public investment, redevelopment opportunities, transportation improvements, and downtown initiatives over the next decade.

Downtown Waxhaw Association
The Downtown Waxhaw Association (DWA) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that works in partnership with the Town of Waxhaw to support the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of Downtown Waxhaw.
The DWA helps expand the impact of the Main Street program through:

fundraising,

downtown promotions,

business support,

partnerships,

and community initiatives.
The organization serves as an important bridge between local government, businesses, residents, volunteers, and community partners.
