Project Details:

• Realign Pine Oak Road east of the bridge so it connects with Prescott Glen Parkway
• Complete a new roundabout 
• Drivers can then travel over Prescott Glen Parkway to access the existing traffic signal at Prescott Glen Parkway/NC-16 for safer turns

December 17, 2025, Project Completion Update:  

Pine Oak Road has reopened, and the new Prescott Glen Parkway Roundabout is now open to traffic.

Important traffic pattern change — please read carefully:

• Pine Oak Road to NC-16 is now RIGHT IN / RIGHT OUT only.
• No left turns from Pine Oak Road onto NC-16.
• To make a LEFT TURN onto NC-16, drivers must take Prescott Glen Parkway to the TRAFFIC SIGNAL intersection between Sam’s Xpress Car Wash and Lowes Foods.

Please slow down, stay alert, and use extra caution as drivers adjust to the new roadway configuration.

This was a developer-led project, and we appreciate the community’s patience throughout construction and recent delays. Minor construction activities will continue as the developer puts the final touches on the project.

December 1, 2025, Project Update: 

Pine Oak Road remains closed as the developer works to complete the final stages of the roundabout and road realignment project. The last remaining work is paving, striping, and installing signage. Unfortunately, recent weather and other factors have caused some delays. 

The developer anticipates the project will be completed by the end of the year, depending on weather and construction progress.

We know this extended closure is frustrating, and we appreciate your patience. We’ll continue to provide updates online and on social media as soon as new information becomes available.

Please continue to follow marked detours and avoid driving around barricades for everyone’s safety. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. 

Pine Oak Road Closure: Approx. September 26 to December 30, 2025

• Road closure: Pine Oak Road will be closed to through traffic from NC-16 to Waxhaw-Marvin Road
• Marked detours: Detour routes will be clearly marked
• Local traffic only: Only residents and services with destinations inside the closed section (e.g. homes, mail delivery, trash pickup) will be allowed through
• Do not drive around barricades: This is for everyone’s safety and to prevent conflicts with construction crews and equipment
• Temporary delays: Give yourself some extra travel time

Project Note: 

This project was originally scheduled to be finished before the start of the school year, but work was delayed while Union County Water completed the necessary permits. Construction is now underway, and the project is expected to wrap up by the end of 2025.

Please note: This is a developer-led project. Construction timelines are dependent on weather, permitting, and other factors outside of the Town’s control.
