We understand that the necessities of life don't stop at the employee entrance and are proud to promote a work-life balance, providing flexibility and a family-friendly environment.   Our employees are skilled, efficient, and productive and therefore encouraged to use accrued paid time off as needed to reset.  We are currently offering a hybrid schedule for qualifying positions.  We believe our employees should be trusted unless proven otherwise. 

We hold frequent employee events to promote relationship-building and teamwork.  There is always room for improvement, but we would not be as good as we are without the many contributions of our employees in managing, planning, and participating in promoting our culture.

Pay and Benefits

Employees of the Town are provided a competitive benefits package upon hire.  Pay is based on performance and market conditions, including an annual merit or COLA, depending on budget.   Pay is bi-weekly and deposited into the employee's chosen personal account.   Paystubs can be reviewed online.

All positions require a Town of Waxhaw signed employment application to be emailed to the Human Resources Department.  Pre-employment substance abuse testing is required for all positions.  We participate in E-Verify, NC New Hire Reporting and Criminal Background Checks.

Wellness and Healthy Work-Life Balance 

The Town of Waxhaw understands the importance of a healthy work-life balance.  The Wellness Committee has created a robust wellness program that includes a points program, competitions, walking groups,  use of gym (located at PD), discounts on other gym memberships, lunch-n-learns and information to help you set and reach goals. Offered is free preventative care, an on-site flu prevention program, one hour of paid time to utilize fitness offerings, and a virtual Telehealth option for only a $10 copay.

Other steps our employees can take while in the office include having a nutritious lunch away from their desk and setting manageable goals each day. Employees are encouraged to use their accrued vacation time to recharge on a regular basis and not come to work while sick or contagious. The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a great way to talk out any stress both personally and professionally with qualified counselors in a confidential manner.

For the points program, employees can earn a minimum of 250 points per quarter by participating in wellness events and can earn some swag! Earing at least 500 points in consecutive quarters will earn a paid day off (max of 2 days per year). The quarter dates are as follows:

Quarter 1: July 1 – September 30
Quarter 2: October 1 – December 31
Quarter 3: January 1 – March 31
Quarter 4: April 1 – June 30
