Home MenuVeterans Day
Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. armed forces, celebrating their patriotism, courage, and sacrifice in times of war and peace.
It is a day to thank living veterans and acknowledge the contributions of all service members, both living and deceased, who have protected the nation and its freedoms.
In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I. Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day, November 11th became a federal holiday in the U.S. in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day.
